Windows Server 2022 now also available in the RECT™ Shop
Friday, 01. October 2021
After three years, Microsoft is once again releasing a powerful new server operating system in the form of Windows Server 2022. And to coincide with the launch, we are pleased to unreservedly recommend its use on our RECT™ servers.
Windows Server 2022 provides the hardware with largely those features that Microsoft brought to the market with Windows Server 2019. However, the version number 2022 now represents further development. And this is, at its core, the improvement of essential and key functions that are considered fundamental to a modern business in 2021. Security, convenience and visibility, performance and scalability; Windows Server 2022 enhances all of these, making it the undisputed best practice solution on our RECT™ servers.
Like its predecessors the new Windows Server 2022 comes in Essentials, Standard and Datacenter Editions. For details and recommendations, please see the relevant system configuration or talk to our competent customer consultants.
One thing remains very simple: Windows Server 2022 runs on any RECT™ tower or rack server. Recommended unreservedly.

RECT™ servers now available with EPYC™ 7002 series
Wednesday, 21. August 2019
All roads currently lead to “Rome” in the server room. AMD makes sure of this with its new ZEN 2 architecture and the associated EPYC™ 7200 series processors that can now unfold their full unrivalled power in the RECT™ 35 series single-socket and the RECT™ 36 series dual-socket servers.
The CPUs were developed by AMD under the codename “Rome” and provide ZEN2 and 7nm production technology in RECT™ servers, boosting performance in all relevant areas – more cores, greater memory capacity, more storage bandwidth, faster PCIe lines while retaining the industry-leading number. And AMD combines all this with new safety features.
The basic specifications are compelling: up to 64 cores with 128 threads in a single socket and up to 128 cores with 256 threads in a dual socket; up to 3.2 GHz per CPU at the base clocking frequency and up to 3.4 GHz at maximum boost frequency with a total of up to 256 MB cache. It also features 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes and DDR4 memory connected over 8 channels at up to 3200 MHz.
The new EPYCs therefore offer maximum core density in a server and combine this with the fastest state-of-the-art I/O standards (first platform with PCIe 4.0) and also integrate security features hard-wired into the core. The RECT™ server platform is therefore one which enhances every IT infrastructure over the long term, whether in a company or a data center. The performance advantage is obvious in all areas – in traditional corporate applications and virtualised environments, in complex cloud environments and in modern, software-defined infrastructures, as well as in high-performance clusters and data analytics.
RECT™ servers based on the AMD ZEN 2 and EPYC™ platform deliver AMD's masterly performance directly to the application and are now available from the RECT™ Shop with configurator.
Find out more here or speak with one of our consultants. They’ll be happy to show you the new models.

Welcome to Microsoft Windows Server 2019 in the RECT™ Shop
Friday, 11. January 2019
Windows 2019 is Microsoft's latest and most advanced server operating system, and it can now be pre-loaded onto all RECT servers. This means new features and ground-breaking performance for your business-critical areas such as security and system monitoring as well as in the analysis and integration of storage and application containers over distributed hosts.
As a Microsoft partner, we were able perform extensive testing with the new service operating system on our latest platforms at an early stage before the actual release. Windows is our clear recommendation. The new features and further development really do deliver the advantages claimed by Microsoft in terms of security and performance as well as in the integration of services from other platforms and cloud functions.
For example, Azure cloud services like File Sync and Disaster Recovery can be incorporated. With Kubernetes, it is not just Windows containers that run in parallel on one server instance. And Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) now also allows administrators to use CLI tools from the world of Linux in Windows Server – in addition to cmd and PowerShell.
Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) is an integrated platform that offers preventive protection and the detection of attacks that have already taken place together with automated examinations and responses: always up-to-date and immediate.
Windows Admin Center is a central console that consolidates all aspects of server administration (whether remote or local). It allows complete control over all types of network and connected servers, clusters and clients, increasingly creating a bridge to a hyperconvergent infrastructure.
Like its predecessor, the new Windows Server 2019 comes in Standard, Essentials and Datacenter editions. For details and recommendations, please see the relevant system configuration or talk to our competent customer consultants.

New Intel® Xeon E3 CPUs in the RECT™ Shop
Monday, 10. April 2017
A performance boost for all RECT servers with Intel® Xeon® E3 CPU. The new “Kaby Lake” Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v6 processors are available for all RECT 64-series servers.
Greater computing performance combined with lower power consumption – typical of the latest developments in the Intel processor families. And this is true of the new “Kaby Lake Xeon” processors, which deliver 200 MHz higher clock speeds while generating almost 8 watts less in terms of TDP. In other words, significantly improved energy efficiency coupled with a general increase in performance. What is more, DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz (PC4-19200) is also now supported, which translates into even greater performance gains.
The new Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v6 CPUs are available for all existing 64-series servers in the RECT™ Shop as the new “Kaby Lakes” still use the established 1151 CPU socket and the Intel® C232 chipset featured in the RECT™ 64-series. This combines excellent expansion options and I/O features (PCI Express® 3.0 with up to 8 lanes, 6x S-ATA 6 Gb/s with RAID support, USB 3.0 etc.) with innovative technology (Intel® “VT-d” Directed I/O Virtualization Technology, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology for companies, Trusted Execution Technology).
The RECT™ 64-series servers with new processors and faster memory have thus been given a boost in terms of computing performance with slightly lower power consumption.
All RECT® 64-series systems can be upgraded
The “Kaby Lake” performance boost can be extended to existing RECT™ 64-series systems. A processor replacement and a BIOS update are all that’s needed. But a word of caution: do not attempt to update the BIOS without proper instruction and advice from our RECT™ professionals. Talk to your personal customer adviser about any forthcoming upgrade.

2Sockets with new Intel® Processors
Friday, 03. June 2016
Here comes the upgrade to our RECT™ models of the series „85“: With new Intel® Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors and faster DDR4 memory, the performance curve continues to turn upwards without raising the price level.
Increased flexibility and an ever improving level of automation: The extended RECT™ 85 series features significant gains in performance and energy efficience, and also when it comes to virtualization and security.
Intel® Broadwell-EP Processors for Dual-Socket-Systems
A serious performance boost for the well-established RECT™ dual-socket platform is marked by the fourth generation of Core-based server CPUs by Intel. Retaining the LGA2011-3 socket, the benchmarks experience an average progression of 23 to 27 percent. The increased number of processor cores is a factor to be stated at this point. Starting with the Xeon E5-2609 v4, the new models usually offer two or four additional cores compared to their respective predecessors from the third generation.
Beyond that, Intel® has made improvements with the architecture. This results in noticeable enhancements concerning various fields. These enhancements include bigger translation lookaside buffers (TLB) and more registers for out-of-order execution, an optimized branch predictor to cut down on unnecessary memory operations, and lesser latencies during integer division. Especially scalar multiplication experiences a significant gain, as it will be completed within one micro-operation now (previously: two micro-operations). This is crucial not only for cryptographic algorithms, where former benchmarks can be beaten by 70 percent. This micro-operational speed-up subsequently boosts the instructions per clock (IPC), granting a higher clock rate during single-threaded operations.
Resource Director Technology (Intel® RDT) is a key feature set to enhance the capabilities of orchestration and virtualization management. The last-level-cache (LLC) is being partitioned, and the parts are given varying priorities to max out the transfer rate. New hardware power states allow for the operating system to make quicker decisions for the right P-state (frequency and voltage).
When it comes to AVX, the new processors offer another benefit we want to mention. They underclock only the respective core operating an AVX instruction while their predecessors were designed to underclock themselves completely. For instance, the Xeon E5-2699 v4 has 18 turbo steps at ist disposal in AVX mode, enabling it to double the base frequency of 1.8 GHz in each of its cores separately.
Transactional Memory (TSX) is active in all Broadwell-EP processors. This technology leads to drastic performance gains especially in databases.
Faster DDR4 Memory
In conjunction with the new processors, the enhanced RECT servers and workstations of the 85 series now offer a higher memory data rate. All systems can be equipped with DDR4-2400 modules (by both Samsung and Kingston, depending on the chosen configuration). When each of the four memory channels is provided with modules, the memory speed can be maxed out.
Overview of the models available in the RECT™ Shop
An already existing RECT™ system of the 85 series with E5-v3 processors can be easily equipped with E5-v4. To make Broadwell-EP processors work in a machine previously operated with Haswell-EP processors, a necessary BIOS update can be applied in no time. Please talk to your personal RECT™ customer adviser prior to the upgrade.
